VAGSport NZ

For Enthusiasts.

We love cars, especially the German variety.  We love like-minded people and we want to share our adventures with you!

VAG Sport New Zealand was created to help other car fanatics connect with people and businesses that can make their automotive goals a reality. One place where the references can be trusted and only the best, most honest advice given – without the mindless trolling and waffling of an online forum.

Whether you’re a strict Audi supporter or a JDM-loving Nissan owner, this is one small island on the internet where Kiwis (and others) can find valuable info, connect with amazing companies or join us on our adventure as we try to turn a family SUV into something that it wasn’t made to be – but should have been!

This space is developing, and we aim to deliver a few key lifestyle products and services. So, watch and visit us regularly to see what’s on offer.

Our Project SQ5

Base Vehicle

Our project car is a beautiful 2016 Audi SQ5 3.0 TFSi in signature Sepang Blue. When we purchased the car it had 82,000km on the odometer already, which means plenty of life left to modify and enjoy this amazing car. This was a Japanese import and was very well looked after.

Engine

Audi’s awarded 3.0 V6 Supercharged engine with APR’s UltraCharger and accompanying modifications. This includes a larger heat exchanger, different pulleys for both the crank and supercharger as well as a (much) larger throttle body. Mapped to APR’s Stage 2+ Ultra 93Oct ECU tune. The stock HP figure jumps from 361 to 498.

Transmission

The vehicle’s standard ZF 8 speed transmission was enhanced with a custom tune done in-house at VAGSportNZ utilizing our HPTuners MPVI 2+ interface. Thanks to the transmission tune, our project SQ500 does 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds in full street trim with incredible daily-driving refinement.

Noise

A full cat-back Milltek exhaust was added but simply didn’t cope with the airflow produced by the car. Through a lot of trial and error, we have a custom exhaust that can handle the HP and airflow without covering our car in fibreglass packing.

Our store is open!

It’s only taken a couple of months, but our store finally has some products that are worth selling to awesome automotive enthusiasts, such as yourselves!

Of course, our products are all original designs and we are focusing on the VAG side of things, but we have some designs in the works for our non-VAG friends and JDM (gasp) crowd, too!

The new SQ5

The all new 2025 Audi SQ5 was recently unveilved. It’s sleeker, faster and more fuel efficient. So what’s the catch?

Engine

The V6 TFSI with a displacement of three liters produces 270 kW and has a maximum torque of 550 Newton meters. There’s talk of a Hybrid system in certain markets as well.

Technology

Audi’s next generation interior infotainment system is paired with brand new Matrix LED Headlights and OLED Tail Lights. Tons of safety technology and driver convenience features makes this the most tech-advanced SQ5 to date.

Style

Every panel on the vehicle is new. With Audi’s bold new front-end and signature rear styling, the new SQ5 is sure to impress. Some design decisions are questionable.

Power in Stages – Part 1

Well, this was inevitable. Ever since I bought my first car, back when Fast and Furious wasn't as mainstream as today, I was infected with the need to squeeze more power out of my car. I was convinced that extra horsepower, performance, and street-cred (that was a...

When in doubt, accessorize

VAG-COM scanning. This means that instead of worrying about costly repairs, we can start thinking about more cosmetic repairs and upgrades to help our vehicle stand out more from the fleet of performance SUVs already on New Zealand roads.

Black-Out Knock-Out

Now that we have a car in the shop, it’s time to get cracking and give our SQ5 some character. There are many 8R SQ5s on the road and we don’t blend in with the crowd. Never have. Never will. So the question is; where to start our modification journey on this family-friendly SUV rocket?

We’ve got wheels!

We picked up an amazing deal on a used, Japanese-imported 2016 Audi SQ5, 3.0 TFSI from a local car dealer here in Auckland. At the time of writing, this is the cheapest 8R Audi SQ5 on the market. It has 83,000 km on the clock but the engine, bodywork, and interior are all well looked after.
